Wolfpack split results, lose first leg of Connect Four Derby

GAME SUMMARY:

Hayward Wolfpack FC dropped their third result in three games, this time to league rivals Bateaux FC. The Eau Claire side only traveled with 12 players, but opened the scoring in the first half with two quick goals by Gage Espanet in the 20th and 23rd minutes, both on breakaways. The Wolfpack controlled play throughout the majority of the half, and finally broke through when St. Scholasitca standout Ken Pryde put in a cross, which found Lake Superior College's Maison Oliver in the box. Oliver beat a few defenders and slid the ball into the net in the 40th minute.

The second half was completely dominated by the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack put 16 shots towards the Bateaux keeper in the half, but many were blocked by sliding defenders, including a great performance by Bateaux's centerback Luke Rosenberger. Only six shots were on frame, and 3 hit the crossbar, but none found the back of the net and the Wolfpack dropped a 2-1 result to the scrappy Eau Claire team. Goalkeeper Riley Brennan had 3 saves for Hayward, and the Wolfpack outshot Bateaux 8-5 in the contest.

Hayward then picked up a 3-0 forfeit win over Barron Soccer Team on Sunday, due to low player numbers for Barron.
